I shot him a look. “Didn’t Steven tell you we got divorced? You probably shouldn’t be calling me that anymore.”
Myron nearly spit out his coffee, his eyes wide with disbelief.
“Holy crap, are you serious? Does he still not know who you are? That can’t be right. The competition is over; he has to know you’re Somania by now. Why would he divorce you?”
I scoffed. “So he can’t divorce me just because he knows I’m Somania? He needs a designer, not a designer wife. The point is, we’re divorced. Stop calling me that.”
Myron looked stunned, slowly setting his coffee cup down on the desk.
“You’re actually divorced. What was Steven thinking? If he let you go, you’re like a bird let out of its cage. He’ll have a hell of a time trying to get you back.”
I frowned. Why on earth would Steven try to get me back? But Myron was the captain of the Steven-and-Zephyra ship, so there was no point arguing with him.
“Since you’re fine with the proposal, I’ll submit it. This project is done, the competition is over, and this new product line is going to make a fortune. I’ve held up my end of the bargain, Mr. Taylor. It’s time for me to resign.”
Myron seemed to have expected this. For once, he didn’t jump up in a dramatic fit. His handsome, roguish face was uncharacteristically serious.
“Denied.”
I tried to reason with him. “I divorced Steven and blocked his number last night. You know how vindictive he can be; he’s not going to want his ex-wife hanging around a partner company. You should really just approve my resignation. I don’t have any other projects, so it’s a clean break.”
Myron fixed his charming eyes on me, looking almost pitiful.
“Steven is Steven, but you’re my employee. He doesn’t get a say in this. Please, just stay and help me out. I didn’t stop you from going to study, from becoming Mr. Taylor’s prize protégé. I even gave you paid leave! Don’t quit on me now. I need you. You can even just keep your title here; you don’t have to do much.”
I had to suppress a laugh. “What happened to being scared of Steven?”
“This is different. If he gets mad, that’s a problem for later. The important thing is that you don’t leave.”
