Ryan and I were both completely stunned.
Only Gordon remained calm and composed through it all.
"Remarry? Are you insane?" I stared at Steven, unable to hold back my retort. "If you don't want to give it to me, just say so. Stop with all these ridiculous games. Ryan, let's go."
I fought too hard for this divorce to just walk back into that fiery pit and repeat my mistakes.
Besides, Steven was clearly just trying to shut me down. He didn't actually want to remarry me. He'd always been so casual with me—our marriage was casual, and our divorce was casual.
If it weren't for Verna, I might have just thought that was his personality. But in my past life, I had witnessed his extravagant engagement party, the wall-to-wall media coverage. He had wanted the entire world to know that he and his one true love had finally found their happy ending.
If he truly cared, he wouldn't toss out the word 'remarry' so lightly. He would have at least made some preparations. So, he was definitely just trying to mess with me.
"Okay." Ryan started to walk out with me, but suddenly, a strong hand grabbed my wrist. It was Steven. His grip was firm, clearly not intending to let me leave. I stopped.
Steven's expression hadn't changed, his voice low and deep.
"I told you, I'm a businessman. If you don't want to remarry me, fine. You can have the item, but what will you give me in return?"
Seeing him soften his stance, I immediately replied, "I have money."
Steven scoffed. "I have more money than you."
"..."
I frowned. Ryan, looking furious, moved to pry Steven's hand off me.
"If you want to talk, then talk. Keep your hands to yourself. You won't take this, you won't take that. Are you just trying to torment my sister on purpose?"
Steven's icy gaze swept over Ryan. "I'm talking to her. Your constant interruptions—are you trying to show off how rude you are, or how stupid?"
