The caller gave me an address and then hung up. I checked the message, where they had sent a photo of the receipt and the damaged necklace. It was indeed one of my clients.
Ryan and I turned the car around and headed for the address, which turned out to be a high-end five-star restaurant. When we arrived, I saw Ryan yawning. “They're not here yet,” I said. “And if the necklace needs repairs, they'll probably want to discuss the details with me. Why don't you wait here and get some rest? I'll be back as soon as I can.”
Ryan stretched and grinned. “No problem. Zephyra's the best! Go on.”
I grabbed my phone and got out of the car. The sky was completely dark now. I went upstairs, gave the reservation name to the hostess, and a waiter led me toward what looked like a private dining room from a distance.
I pushed the door open and stepped inside. The room was dark. I fumbled for the light switch on the wall, turning it on before closing the door behind me. The room was elegantly furnished, not just with a dining table, but also a sofa and a television.
I sat on the sofa for a moment and messaged the client to let them know I'd arrived. They replied that they were three minutes away.
I put my phone down and happened to notice how dirty my hands were from handling raw materials all afternoon. I went out onto the balcony to wash them, leaving my phone behind. Over the sound of the running water, I heard the sound of steady footsteps approaching. I was surprised. Had Mr. and Mrs. James arrived so quickly?
I turned off the tap and turned around, freezing in shock at the sight of the person who had entered.
“What are you doing here?”
It was Steven, his long legs clad in a tailored suit, striding purposefully toward me. His handsome features were cold and severe, the corner of his lip twitching upwards.
“And why shouldn't it be me?”
He advanced on me, and a strange sense of dread washed over me. I backed away, my brow furrowed.
