I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 386

He took another sip of the strong liquor, the red mark on his handsome, pale face standing out in stark relief, his eyes cold and sharp.

"You hit Verna, and you hit me. You're not going anywhere."

A look of displeasure crossed my face. "Let me repeat myself. I did not push Verna. She fell on her own. You were the one who wanted to call the police. We should have just waited at the restaurant for them to come and sort it out. I didn't even argue with you about that, so why did you drag me here?"

"As for you getting hit, I warned you to get out of my way. You chose to take that slap for Verna, so what right do you have to blame me for it now?"

Steven remained silent, swirling the drink in his glass, his long, well-defined fingers wrapped around it. I couldn't tell what he was thinking.

I had no interest in wasting any more words with him. Still holding the vase, I walked toward the door, only to find it wouldn't open. It was a keyless entry system, with a fingerprint scanner next to the door.

I gritted my teeth and turned back to Steven, marching right up to him with the vase in hand.

"What is it you want? If you're really trying to get back at me for Verna, then just get it over with. It's not like I haven't been through it before. This slow-burn torture of keeping me here... it makes me think you're just using this as an excuse to keep me around."

It wasn't an impossible thought. Steven was proud. Our last fight had clearly wounded his ego, and he would never be the first to back down.

But our relationship was a toxic mess. There was no point in him keeping me here.

Suddenly, Steven's eyes darkened, and he continued to drink in silence.

When he didn't argue, my head started to ache with frustration. Had he traded his sharp tongue for silent treatment? Why wouldn't he just say something?!

"Fine. You hate me, you can't be bothered to deal with me yourself. But you called the police to the restaurant. With the main parties gone, how are they supposed to handle it?"

Not that I would have cooperated. I would have shown the police my brother's bruised face and demanded they find Verna and make her apologize to him personally!
