I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 423

I would remember that.

The whole family couldn't help but smile. Horace, too, was beaming as we all raised our glasses in celebration.

Soon, Ryan returned from his mission, cheerfully boasting, “Nothing more satisfying than putting a foul-mouthed woman in her place! A few punches here and a few there, I guarantee she won’t dare to come back!”

“Grandpa, she’s on her way to the hospital. She probably won’t be seeing anyone for at least a couple of weeks!”

Everyone shook their heads, but their faces were alight with satisfaction.

I felt the same way.

My only small regret was that I hadn’t gone out to watch the show. It must have been spectacular!

The entire dinner was filled with a lively, warm atmosphere.

The only slight damper was he continued coldness toward Horace. He barely spoke to him, leaving Julian to do most of the talking.

As the meal was winding down, my grandpa stated flatly, “Anyone who wishes to marry a granddaughter of the Lopez family must have an acceptable family background, character, and sincerity. The women of my family will not suffer from a lack of money or love.”

I knew my mother’s story had left deep scars on him, so I didn’t argue. I just murmured, “Grandpa, we haven’t even talked about marriage yet.”

He glanced at me, assuming I was defending Horace, and ignored me.

Horace, however, looked directly at him and said with grave sincerity, “Rest assured, sir. I will make a name for myself and marry Zephyra with the utmost sincerity. I will treat her well for the rest of our lives!”

Julian sized Horace up, his gaze lingering on his wheelchair for a few seconds. “The Lopez family will not accept a man who is shorter than its women.”

Grandpa offered no comment and simply turned and walked away, the others following suit.

My heart clenched. My uncle’s meaning was clear: they did not approve of Horace. While I had no immediate plans to marry Horace, I couldn't stand them attacking him for his leg.

After all, he was injured for my sake…

I frowned and walked over to Horace. “Uncle Julian is just blunt. Don’t take it to heart.”

Horace looked at me, his gaze intense. He grasped my hand firmly, his smile confident and unwavering. “Zephyra, I will stand up again. And the person you choose in the future will be me.”
