I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 424

“Zephyra,” Steven seethed, a vein pulsing in his forehead, “if you say one more word in his defense, you can stop speaking to me altogether.”

My eyes turned red with frustration. I bit my lip, not daring to argue back. I loved Steven, and the thought of not speaking to him was impossible. But in that moment, all I felt was a deep sense of injustice.

I hadn't seen Horace in years. He was my dear friend, someone who had nearly been crippled protecting me. How could I call him a bad person? How could I possibly abandon him completely?

Steven was being too tyrannical!

I pushed him away, giving him the silent treatment, but I didn't dare leave. I just sat on the edge of the bed, stewing in my own anger.

After a tense standoff, I was the one who broke first. I started peeling an apple for him.

“Have an apple. Let’s not fight.”

With a sour look on his face, he finally took the apple I offered. Then he looked at me again. “He beat me up and sent me to the hospital for no reason. Aren’t you going to comfort me?”

I pursed my lips. Steven was always giving me the cold shoulder and bullying me, taking advantage of my love for him. He certainly hadn't been beaten up for no reason.

But I was a glutton for punishment. I reached up and gently stroked his head.

He narrowed his eyes, unimpressed. “Is that all?”

I stood up, leaned over, and kissed him. As I started to pull away, he suddenly wrapped one arm around my waist, pulling me down into his embrace. His other hand cupped the back of my neck, and his lips pressed against mine in a fierce, domineering kiss.

Back then, he had said Horace had ulterior motives and warned me not to get too close to him. I had just thought he was being malicious towards Horace, and we ended up fighting about it again.

Now, a lifetime later, with Horace’s love for me laid bare, I finally realized the truth—

Perhaps, from the moment they first met, Steven had seen the way Horace felt about me. That’s why he was so determined to keep us apart.

He just used the wrong words. He never should have called Horace a bad person. In my past life, I was blinded by love, but my guilt toward Horace kept a tiny part of me sane. When Steven called him bad, my instinct was to fight back…

After the Lopez family dinner, everyone went their separate ways.

It was time for my younger uncle’s heart surgery. His condition couldn’t be delayed any longer. I had some free time, so I stayed to see him through the surgery before I had to report to Mr. Taylor.

The day Uncle Julian went into the operating room, Steven woke up. The Lancaster family’s stock began to rebound, and everything seemed to be getting back on track.

However, I heard that he defied Mr. Lancaster Sr. and insisted on meeting Verna privately. He even hired her as his personal secretary.
