I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 429

A laugh escaped me. I looked at Steven's face, incredulous.

“Do you have amnesia? You don’t know who your new flame is?”

Verna wasn’t a ghost. He had taken a top medical student and turned her into his personal secretary, keeping her right under his nose. If that wasn’t love, what was?

It was even more pathetic than in my past life. At least back then, Verna was a rising star in her own field. Now, her career was likely ruined.

Though, Verna was probably thrilled.

Megan’s heart was pounding. Her expression screamed, “She’s insane.”

I could read their faces. They were all thinking that not only was I not sucking up to Steven, I was being openly hostile. If I angered him, my career in this industry would be over before it started.

But Steven didn’t get angry. He just kept his eyes fixed on me, his tone calm.

“I don’t. So tell me. If there’s a misunderstanding, I’ll correct it.”

The atmosphere at the table shifted. Everyone’s eyes darted between me and Steven, sensing that something else was going on.

I stared at him, stunned. For a moment, it was as if I didn’t know him at all.

He would correct a misunderstanding? Was this something the proud, cold Steven would ever say?

He had to be furious that I didn’t visit him and was just bottling it up, waiting for the right moment to strike.

I was so tired of him. We were divorced, but he was still stuck to me like glue.

If I couldn't beat him, I could at least run away.

Once I made my fortune and was richer than him, then I would fight him. But for now, as a newcomer, I had to be smart and protect myself.

“I’m not interested in other people’s private lives, especially yours. Do as you please,” I said, running a hand through my hair in frustration. I turned to the others. “I’m sorry, I’m not feeling well. I’m going to have to leave. We can do this again some other time.”

With that, I stood up to go. Steven didn’t move, but Zachary suddenly rushed over and blocked my path.

“Ms. Jones, that’s not right of you. It’s a rare occasion for Mr. Lancaster to join a dinner like this. And after he spoke to you so kindly, you can’t just walk out. At least have a toast with him.”

“Here, fill Ms. Jones' glass.”
