Verna declared, “You are destined to fail.”
Steven's handsome, refined face was etched with a chilling frostiness, but his tone was detached. “You went to all this trouble to injure yourself and force me to come see you... just to repeat these same tiresome words?”
“I've heard you. Once your injury is treated, go back to Ixia immediately.”
“I sprained my ankle! I can't go back, I need to be hospitalized!” Verna stared at him, then stood up straight and laughed mockingly. “And these aren't tiresome words. They're a reminder, a warning!”
“I know you'll regret it once you're lucid, but it's too late for regrets. The last time you were dying in the hospital, Zephyra didn't even come to see you. Isn't the change in her obvious? She was reborn too, wasn't she?”
“She remembers everything from our past life. Women are sensitive, suspicious creatures with no sense of security. You can't explain your relationship with me, so there will always be a thorn in her side. She can never be with you.”
“She doesn't want the you from the past, or the you from the present.”
An unknown fury roiled in Steven's eyes. “You're overstepping, Verna. Don't try to interfere in my business with her. My patience with you is limited.”
“Live your life quietly, be the secretary you wanted to be, and I guarantee you'll be well-compensated. But if you cross the line again and target her, for every inch you take, I will repay you tenfold.”
Verna bit her lip hard, her watery eyes turning crimson. “Steven, don't go too far! You know I have to be with you!”
