His gaze fell to her ankle. “Since you can't return to Ixia with a sprained ankle, then you should stay in the hospital. A sprain isn't enough. I'll have someone help you... make sure you get to stay in the hospital for a good long while.”
Verna sensed what he intended to do. Her heart seized, and a chilling cold spread up her spine.
“You're insane! Are you going to break my leg over a few trending topics? You said she wouldn't fall for it, so why are you doing this to me?”
Steven rolled up his sleeves. “She won't fall for it, but it might annoy her.”
“How could Zephyra possibly be annoyed? She doesn't like you at all right now! She'll never know what you're doing for her. You two are doomed to fail in this life. Even if you still love her, you can't get back! You tried in the last life, didn't you? Your situation is hopeless. What's the point of going to such extremes?”
Steven's expression was grim as he turned and walked out.
Seeing that he was no longer listening and was leaving, Verna became even more enraged. She limped after him, trying to catch him, but was blocked by the men at the door.
“Mr. Lancaster! Steven! If you dare do this to me, it will all come back to haunt Zephyra!”
“Just like before! The more you love her, the faster she'll die!”
...
Meanwhile, I got Megan into the emergency room, breaking out in a sweat from the exertion.
Carter, at least, had some sense of responsibility. He didn't bail, and he took care of the payment.
