Gordon was stunned.
A crack appeared in Steven's cool, indifferent facade, his gaze fixed on her.
"She's pregnant? Who told you that?"
Megan explained, "I had appendicitis a few days ago, and Zephyra took me to the hospital. A friend of mine there saw her with a pregnancy test and confirmed it was positive. Haven't you noticed how sleepy she's been lately? And last night when she got angry, she instinctively shielded her stomach. Those are all signs of pregnancy."
"Zephyra really helped me out, and I'm grateful. She looked so pale last night... The thing is, I once told her… that I had feelings for you, but that's all in the past now. I just feel awkward and didn't dare approach her directly, but I was worried. That's why I followed her here today. I figured if something happened, I could get her to a hospital quickly."
Steven's face was taut, his thin lips pressed into a tight line. He then turned and strode quickly back into the competition hall.
Megan looked completely lost. "What was that all about, Mr. Lancaster? Even if they're divorced, she's still his ex-wife. Why would he have that kind of reaction to her being pregnant? So shocked and… conflicted?"
Gordon considered the tangled mess of the current situation and cleared his throat. "You don't need to worry about this. Thank you for the heads-up. Mr. Lancaster will confirm it with her himself."
Back in the competition hall.
My entire focus was on the competition. Between the pressure and my urgency to deal with Horace's situation, I worked faster today than the past two days, feeling like I could submit my project ahead of schedule.
Around noon, someone delivered food, which made me pause.
Horace had been taken away so suddenly last night, and I had been in such a rush that I hadn't ordered anything. Who was this lunch from?
"Was this sent to the wrong person?"
The staff member smiled. "Not at all. This is your lunch."
I looked down at the fragrant fried rice on the table. It smelled so good, and I was starving. I didn't care who sent it; I was going to eat first and ask questions later.
