Rachel frowned, glancing between Horace and me, looking utterly lost on the stage.
Steven's gaze was indulgent, like a husband watching his wife throw a harmless tantrum.
“You insisted on this whole divorce drama, using every trick in the book, and I had to play along. But an act is an act. We can't become strangers. It's gone on long enough; it's time for you to come to your senses.”
I truly believed Steven was an absolute madman!
I had gone through hell to divorce him, only to find out he saw the whole thing as me just acting out.
So when he forced me to “remarry,” it wasn’t real? It was just a test to see if I was done with my rebellion?
Had he changed, or had I never really known him at all? Why was he playing these games with me?
For a moment, I felt like a bird on a tether. I thought I had flown free, but he had been holding the line all along.
And now, he was reeling me back in.
A powerful sense of being manipulated washed over me.
I struggled to maintain my composure. “Get out,” I seethed, glaring at Steven. “Steven, get the hell out of here!”
Steven’s smile tightened slightly.
“Bigamy. You and your affair partner here will both go to jail.”
Horace’s grip on my hand tightened. “Don't threaten Zephyra,” he said coldly. “It was just a ceremony. That's not a crime.”
“You're not welcome at our wedding. Get out.”
Steven’s eyes narrowed.
Horace and I stood our ground, hoping Steven would leave so we could deal with the aftermath. But the audience was filled with our elders, people who had come to celebrate our marriage. When Steven showed up with a marriage certificate, I was suddenly the woman cheating on her husband, and Horace was the other man.
It was utterly absurd!
They couldn't comprehend what was happening.
Mr. Lopez Sr. gripped his cane, his face grim as he asked, “What in the world is going on?”
Everyone turned to me, waiting for an explanation.
My face went pale. Just as I was about to force myself to explain, Steven grabbed my hand and whispered something in my ear. My eyes widened in shock. “That’s impossible! You’re lying!”
