“If he cared for Zephyra, he wouldn't hurt her,” Horace’s voice was frigid. “The person who saved my leg back then was Zephyra. She was the one who wanted to help me, not the Lancasters.”
“Unless Zephyra tells me herself that she doesn't love me, I won't let go. I hope you will respect my decision and not interfere.”
With that, he turned and left the room.
Mr. Spencer sighed while Mrs. Spencer’s eyes grew red with anger and frustration. Rachel quickly moved to comfort them, but Mrs. Spencer grabbed her hand.
“Oh, Rachel, if only Horace loved you instead,” she lamented. “You're such a good girl. Marrying you would have saved the Spencer family so much trouble. Horace… I swear, Zephyra is going to be the death of him.”
Rachel’s expression stiffened. “I know you're upset and hurt, but you can't blame Zephyra for this. It’s Steven who’s in the wrong. Horace is really down right now, and I’m worried about him. I'll go talk to him. You two should get some rest. I’m sure things will work out eventually.”
Mr. and Mrs. Spencer quickly agreed, and Rachel got up, grabbing her purse.
She left the room and found Horace in another room, sitting at a desk, typing on his laptop, lost in thought.
She watched him for a moment with a deep, unreadable expression before changing her clothes. Then she poured him a glass of water and placed it on his desk.
Horace didn’t look up. “If you’re here to be my parents’ messenger, don't waste your breath. You know I only love Zephyra.”
Rachel sighed. “I just noticed you haven't had anything to drink all afternoon. You need to take care of yourself if you want to win her back. I’m still hoping to be at your wedding, you know.”
Horace looked up at her. Rachel picked up her purse. “I understand where they’re coming from, but they love you. They'll probably come around in a couple of days. Don't worry too much about it.”
Horace’s voice softened slightly. “Thank you.”
“Don't be so dramatic. We’ve been friends for years. There's no need for thanks,” she said, patting his shoulder. “I have to get back to Ixia for work. If you or Zephyra need any help, just call me.”
