Inside the office.
Yves went on at length. Not wanting to seem too obvious, I only asked about a few key points, taking mental notes of the report details, supply sources, and price negotiations.
Then I noticed a document on his desk: "Tender Proposal for Elevator Procurement and Installation for the Renovation Project." It was a bid proposal. My heart skipped a beat. "Are you in charge of this as well?"
"Yes, Mrs. Lancaster. I'm responsible for both projects."
I drew out a long "Ohhh," my eyes fixed on the proposal. "Can I see it?"
Yves placed his hand over the document, laughing lightly to smooth things over.
"Mrs. Lancaster, this is a top-secret company document for a very important project. I even take it to the bathroom with me when I go home, just to prevent leaks. It's not that I mind you seeing it, but I'm worried someone else might get a look. If the bid price gets out, the company will be in big trouble."
So that was a no.
My fingers tightened, but I kept my tone pleasant. "Alright, then. I'll look at something else."
Just as I said that, there was a knock on the door behind me. I turned, and the smile on my face faded when I saw who it was.
I stood up. "Is your meeting over already?"
Yves quickly got to his feet. "Mr. Lancaster."
A tall, handsome man stood in the doorway, striding towards me with long legs.
His gaze fell on my face as he put an arm around my shoulders, his expression cool. He looked at Yves.
"Thank you for your time. You can get back to work."
"Of course." Yves nodded and sat back down.
Steven said nothing, letting his hand slide from my shoulder to take mine as he led me away.
I followed him obediently.
