Just then, a knock came at the door. "Mr. Lancaster, the madam is here."
...
I waited for Steven on a sofa near the conference room, my bag in my lap.
He arrived shortly, carrying a gift bag. His beautiful eyes widened in surprise when he saw me, and a smile touched his lips.
"What are you doing here?"
I looked at the young, handsome man before me, his smile so brilliant it betrayed no hint of his corrupted morals.
I smiled back. "I had some things to do this afternoon and happened to be nearby. I came to pick you up from work. Are you finished?"
Steven's eyes darkened, a barely concealed joy shining through his gaze. His Adam's apple bobbed as he took my hand. "I'm done. Let's go."
I followed him obediently.
The moment we were in the car, Steven trapped me against the seat and kissed me deeply. One of his hands cupped my face as he kissed me with a profound, passionate tenderness. My hands rested on his chest. I didn't push him away, and I could feel his heart pounding violently. His kiss was intense, his emotions even more so. I could feel a torrent of suppressed feelings radiating from him.
My own heart, however, remained perfectly calm. I remembered something Horace had told me not long ago—
"Zephyra, you don't have to love me, but I want you to be free. No matter where our paths lead, I hope you can live this life happily."
"Steven, I will definitely help you deal with him."
Suddenly, a sharp pain on my lip brought me back. Steven had bitten me. He opened his eyes, his dark, heavy gaze fixed on me as he spoke, his voice husky.
"Your mind is wandering while we're kissing. What are you thinking about?"
I looked at him and smiled. "I was just thinking how handsome you are."
His words caught in his throat.
Through his clothes, I felt his heart hammer even more furiously against my palm, as if it would burst from his chest. But his face was a mask of shock, his expression unreadable.
Steven truly was a master of hiding his emotions.
