Steven sat in the conference room, listening calmly as his subordinates gave their reports. The meeting had dragged on all afternoon, and despite the terrible numbers, his expression remained placid, which only made everyone more anxious.
As dusk fell, Steven glanced at his watch. "That's enough for today. Everyone, organize your notes and send me your proposals later. Yves, you especially need to stay on top of your project. Don't let anything slip through the cracks."
"Of course, Mr. Lancaster," Yves replied.
Steven returned to his office, and a collective sigh of relief filled the room.
Someone asked Gordon, "Mr. Lancaster seems to be in a good mood today. The numbers have been awful lately, but he wasn't even angry. Is there some good news at home?"
Gordon nodded. "You could say that. The madam is back, isn't she?"
Everyone looked bewildered for a moment before understanding dawned.
"I always thought Mr. Lancaster was immune to women and only loved his work. He treated his pretty young wife like she didn't even exist, never mentioned her."
"You were on leave, so you don't know. Mr. Lancaster brought the madam here! She wanted to see the overseas project team, and Mr. Lancaster gave her a personal tour. He even had Mr. James explain things to her. The look on his face... you have no idea how smitten he looked."
"My god, Mr. Lancaster never lets outsiders meddle in company affairs. He won't even let Mr. Thomas Lancaster interfere with our work. I can't believe he has such a double standard for his wife. No wonder he was so pleasant during the meeting today. He was smiling even when he heard the bad numbers. I thought he'd gone mad with anger, but it turns out he was just thinking about his wife... Mr. Lancaster must be falling in love for the first time."
Gordon listened to their chatter without joining in. He gathered his files and left.
There was an express package on the desk, which he took straight to Steven.
When he opened the office door, he saw Steven fiddling with a blue bracelet and couldn't help but smile.
"Is that a gift for the madam, Mr. Lancaster?"
