I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 574

The night was pierced by a biting wind.

Before I even got off the highway, my car inexplicably broke down. I had no choice but to pull over to the emergency lane and wait.

So much for a clean getaway. Frustrated, I scowled and called Noah to arrange for someone to pick me up and take me to the airport.

Noah raised an eyebrow. “It’s dangerous on the highway. Don’t move. I’ll send someone to get you.”

After hanging up, I took a deep breath. Panicking wouldn’t help. Cars were flying by, so there was no way I could try to fix it myself.

I checked my phone. Half an hour had passed.

Steven and Antonia… it must have happened by now, right?

After a moment’s hesitation, I opened the app to check the camera feed, but the live view was completely black.

My heart skipped a beat. I scrolled down to the stored video recordings.

The last clip was from twenty minutes ago. I didn't see two people tangled in an embrace, or even Antonia. All I saw was the bedroom floor, covered in blood.

Then Steven, wearing a bathrobe, walked straight toward the camera. He was holding a small knife, and blood dripped steadily from his hand.

His handsome face was smeared with blood, his expression terrifyingly grim. His dark, deep-set eyes were churning with an extreme rage, a menacing aura radiating from him as he stared directly into the lens, as if he were staring right at me, ready to devour me whole.

“Zephyra.”

The name seemed forced through gritted teeth, each syllable dripping with fury.

Then, he smashed his fist into the camera. The screen shattered and went dark.

I was so terrified my phone slipped from my hand and clattered to the floor.

Holy shit!

Wasn't Steven supposed to be incapacitated? How was he so lucid?!

And what was with all the blood on his hand?

Antonia was young and beautiful, and she was deliberately trying to seduce him. How could he have resisted? Was he even a man?

Recalling Steven’s final glare, a panic seized me, and the hair on my arms stood on end. Even through the screen, I could feel his murderous intent.

I didn’t have time to review what had happened earlier. I immediately called Noah.

Sometimes, a partner bound by mutual interest is more effective and reliable than anyone else.

If he wanted to take down Steven, he had to save me.

Just as I hung up with Noah, several cars pulled up in front of me, all stopping on the shoulder.
