I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 620

I pursed my lips and asked meekly, “Why did we get a divorce? And why does he hate me so much?”

Gordon raised his eyebrows, reluctant to answer, but I had no other way of finding out what was going on, so I pleaded with him.

Gordon finally said, “You were the one who asked for the divorce. I don’t know the exact reason, but as for why Mr. Lancaster hates you… he has every reason to. Mr. Lancaster didn’t want the divorce, so you did everything you could to make him angry. You raised all kinds of hell, you drugged him, you even arranged for other women to sleep with him. You nearly ruined his reputation.”

“Luckily, Mr. Lancaster kept a level head and didn’t do anything rash. He didn’t even press charges. He still wanted to make things work with you. But then… you stole confidential information on two of the company’s biggest projects and gave it to his rival. It caused massive losses… it bankrupted him!”

My heart clenched. I couldn’t believe I had done so many terrible things. And I couldn’t believe what Steven had said about me sabotaging his project was also true.

So he hadn't been lying before. Why did he pretend he was?

“Bankrupted?” I asked, my voice filled with dread.

Gordon sighed dramatically. “Yes. The company lost tens of billions. Of course he went bankrupt. Mr. Lancaster has a younger brother who seized the opportunity to take over. Now Mr. Lancaster is flat broke, working a regular job to get by. How could he not be angry with you?”

“But worst of all, something happened to Mr. Lancaster’s grandfather. You sent his grandfather a message, and the old man, who adores you, wanted to see you. But when he called, he found you had blocked his number. He got into a staged car accident, and the evidence was ironclad. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say you were responsible. How could Mr. Lancaster not hate you? He’s absolutely livid.”

“And now you’re in trouble, and he has to clean up your mess, using the last of his savings to do it. Mrs. Lancaster… please, you have to be good to him.”

I listened, stunned and speechless. I felt awful, consumed by guilt.

No wonder Steven looked like he wanted to murder me. I had made his life a living hell, and then I got amnesia without facing any consequences. And now I was forcing him to deal with my problems. Who wouldn't be furious?

I was also beginning to understand what Gordon meant when he said Steven says the opposite of what he means. He had told me the truth before, only to pretend it was a lie. Was it just to spite me?

“I understand. Thank you.”
