How could Steven kiss me?

He was practically strangling me just moments ago, and I was about to cut all ties with him. We were in the middle of a fight. How dare he kiss me?!

“Steven—” My anger and hurt had nowhere to go. I couldn't push him away or even speak. He easily parted my lips, his kiss deepening, becoming reckless and heavy, as if he intended to consume me whole.

I could feel him losing control, completely giving in to some impulse. His grip on my waist was so tight I thought I might snap in two, and my lips ached from the bruising force of his. It was as if a string that had been pulled taut for too long had finally snapped, unleashing something unrestrained and endless.

The more I resisted, the rougher his kiss became. My ears started ringing with rage, and a sharp pain shot through my head. The next second, my vision went black, and my body went limp in his arms.

As I collapsed, Steven’s eyes flew open, his expression changing instantly. “Zephyra?”

When I didn't respond, his face darkened. He swept me up into his arms and strode toward the nearby hospital.

Gordon, startled, hurried to follow.

A series of check-ups revealed nothing serious. I had simply fainted from stress and exhaustion, my body not yet fully recovered.

Gordon glanced at Steven and cleared his throat.

“Mr. Lancaster, perhaps we should return to Ixia and consult a specialist for her? She has just been through a major ordeal and can't handle any more stress… or this kind of turmoil.”

Steven’s face was impassive, but a flicker of regret crossed his dark eyes.

“I lost control. I took my anger out on her.”

Gordon looked at the woman on the bed. Her hair was a mess, her lips were swollen and red, and there were faint scratch marks on the wrist with the IV line—all evidence of a struggle far more intense than a simple argument.

“Was it because of Horace? He didn’t find her, and it doesn't seem like she’s remembered him. Right now, you’re the only one she has.”

Steven stood by the bed, his figure tall and straight, his gaze sharp. “Her amnesia was caused by medication.”
