I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 647

It was obvious. Very obvious.

He didn't seem like the kind of person who could ever stoop to groveling.

I stood there in silence for a moment before snatching the steak from his hand and placing it on the table. He handed me the utensils, and I dug in.

Mmm!

Delicious! This steak was amazing!

I swayed my head unconsciously and took a bite of a fried chicken wing. It was so fragrant!

My mood instantly brightened. Of course, I had to maintain my pride; I couldn't let him think I was a pushover.

"I'm... mmm... eating this steak and chicken," I mumbled, my mouth full, "but that doesn't mean I forgive you..."

I chewed some more, my cheeks puffed out. "I'm just... really hungry."

A low chuckle rumbled in Steven's throat. His features softened, and he seemed much more relaxed.

He sat down and began cutting my steak into small, neat pieces.

"I was out of line earlier, I apologize. From now on, until you get your memory back, I won't bring up our past. But you will stay by my side. I'll take care of you until your memory returns, until the day we can finally settle our accounts."

Wasn't that just his way of saying he'd support me while I had amnesia?

I paused, looking up at him. After cutting the steak, he ladled a small bowl of nourishing soup and placed it in front of me.

Then, he lifted his gaze to meet mine, his eyes incredibly deep and unreadable. "Why aren't you saying anything?"

I chewed on a piece of steak. "That sounded more like an order than a suggestion."

Steven’s breathing deepened silently.

"Do you have other plans?"

"Oh," I said. "Mr. Peters is helping me find a job. The interviewer is coming this weekend. I'm going to give it a shot. If it doesn't work out, I'll keep looking. If it does, I'll go to work and earn my own money."

I had no intention of letting him support me. With less than twenty dollars to my name, if we got into another fight, I wouldn't even have a place to go cry.

Besides, hadn't he just gone bankrupt? Could he even afford to support me?
