I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 799

Horace didn't back down. "Fine. You'd better kill me, because if you don't, I'll kill you."

The tension in the room plummeted to a freezing point. Steven's glare was so menacing he looked like he was about to tear Horace apart.

I knew how well Steven could fight; he moved like he'd had professional training. When Horace's leg was fine, he might have been able to hold his own, but injured as he was, he was no match for Steven.

Instinctively, I reached out and grabbed Steven's arm.

"You're coming with me, now!"

In this situation, the best solution was to get one of them out of the room.

Steven gave me a complicated look, gently pushed my hand away, and strode to the bed, grabbing Horace by the collar.

"Horace, this is your last warning. Stay away from Zephyra!"

Steven's gaze was cold enough to make one's heart stop.

Horace looked at him with contempt. Steven raised an eyebrow and sneered:

"Then again, you're useless now. Maybe death would be a relief for you. But I wonder if your parents are ready for a hard life. What do you think would happen to them if I destroyed your family's company? Would they end up sweeping streets or cleaning toilets?"

"Steven!" Horace shoved him away, his eyes bloodshot. "You dare touch my parents!"

Steven moved forward again, but I stepped in front of him first.

I stood between them, shielding Horace. Steven's fist stopped mid-air, his dark, deep eyes fixed on me, the anger in them flaring even hotter.

His hand trembled slightly. After a tense moment, he finally lowered his fist. I breathed a sigh of relief; if that punch had landed, I wasn't sure I could have stopped him.

"Horace once said you'd forgive him even if you knew he drugged you, and it looks like he was right. Since you're so generous, why don't you ever show any gratitude to me for the times I've saved your life?"

His words made me freeze.

Right then, Steven looked like a child who had been treated unfairly for too long, his pent-up emotions finally erupting.

I had to admit, ever since my rebirth, I'd been biased against Steven.

No matter what he did, I assumed he had ulterior motives, and I always tried my best to ignore his kindness.

Thinking about it now, I realized I had been incredibly unfair to him.

If Horace had been the one to save me all those times, I probably would have dedicated my life to being with him, even if not as a wife, but as a friend, forever burdened by the debt.
