Rachel muttered under her breath, "Weirdo."
When I opened my eyes again, the room was pitch black. I had no idea what time it was.
I took a moment to get my bearings. In the moonlight filtering through the small window, I could see Rachel curled up in a corner, hugging herself tightly.
Although it wasn't exactly cold, there was still a chill in the air. Because of my pregnancy, I was dressed much more warmly than usual, so I didn't feel it much, but Rachel must have been uncomfortable.
I was just about to ask if she wanted to huddle together when I heard footsteps outside. As expected, they stopped right at our door.
The door creaked open. The stout man was holding a flashlight, and he swept its beam over me and Rachel in a perverse way.
The light woke Rachel up, and her temper immediately flared. "What are you doing?"
The man leered at her, then stood the flashlight on the floor, instantly illuminating the whole room.
"I saw you didn't eat much this afternoon, so I brought you some milk. And a light, so you can see your way to the bathroom."
As he spoke, the man held up the cartons in his hands.
Rachel swallowed hard. We hadn't had a single drop of water since the instant noodles that afternoon, and we were both incredibly thirsty.
Rachel walked over and casually took one of the cartons. The man offered the other to me; a straw was already stuck in it.
Rachel had always been a bit careless. She said coldly, "I guess you have some decency after all. Better than the others."
I saw her lift the straw to her lips and quickly spoke up. "You said you wanted me to go abroad?"
Hearing my question, Rachel paused, the straw just touching her lips. She lowered it. "You'll go?"
A flicker of disappointment crossed the man's eyes.
I looked at the man. "Shouldn't you be getting back to bed?"
