I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 864

The doctor's solemn words echoed in my ears as the world went dark. My legs gave out, but Rachel caught me from behind. “Zephyra, stay strong! Let’s hear what else he has to say.”

Rachel turned to the doctor, her voice strained. “He was stabbed in the back, wasn't he? How could it be this serious?”

The doctor’s brow was furrowed. “It doesn’t matter where the entry wound is. A knife that deep can cause devastating internal damage.”

“The patient lost a great deal of blood, which deprived his brain of oxygen. That’s what led to his current condition.”

I forced myself to stand, my entire body shaking as I faced the doctor. “So… what are the chances he’ll wake up?”

He was just talking to me on the way here. How could he not wake up?

The doctor looked pained. “It’s… impossible to say. It could be tomorrow, or it could be… never. You should prepare for the worst.”

How could this be happening? I felt as if I’d been plunged into icy water. I knew his injuries were bad, but I never imagined he wouldn’t wake up.

Rachel was just as stunned. “So… he’s in a coma?”

The doctor looked at me with a comforting expression. “Not necessarily. It’s important to stay hopeful.”

I turned to the medical team. “Thank you,” I said, my voice barely a whisper.

The doctor nodded. “He’ll need to be monitored in the ICU for a couple of days. If his condition is stable, we can move him to a regular room.”

I nodded, feeling a sharp twist of pain in my chest.

After the doctors left, Rachel helped me back to the bench. I couldn't tell if the doctor was just being gentle or if he was truly telling me that Steven might be gone forever.

“Zephyra, don’t give up hope,” Rachel said. “I’ll find Gordon and have him contact specialists overseas. Even if doctors here can’t help, maybe there’s a miracle somewhere else.”

Just as she spoke, Gordon returned.

Rachel started to speak, but Gordon, his eyes red and swollen, spoke first. “I’ve already spoken with the doctor about Mr. Lancaster's condition. I called his grandfather. The Lancasters should be arriving soon.”

Gordon looked at me, his expression a mixture of pity and concern.

“Ma’am, you haven’t rested in days. Why don’t you go home and get some sleep? I’ll call you the second anything changes with Mr. Lancaster.”

I knew what he was implying. An incident this serious couldn't be kept from the Lancaster family.

They already despised me. With Steven unconscious, they would surely be even more cruel.

But Steven had just gotten out of surgery. I couldn’t leave him.

“I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying with Steven.”
