I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 865

I gazed at Steven through the window, a bitter taste in my mouth.

“Don’t worry, they wouldn’t dare do anything to me,” I said softly, though my real fear was what they might do to Steven.

Gordon opened his mouth to protest, but at that moment, Mary and Thomas came rushing over, immediately cornering him with questions.

Quick as a flash, Rachel pulled me back a few steps and turned me away from the unpleasant scene.

Mary’s wails were loud enough to shake the walls, but her face was completely dry. As for Thomas, he looked less like a concerned brother and more like he was thrilled to be at a party.

“Gordon,” Thomas demanded, “is Steven a goner?”

Gordon’s jaw tightened. “Mr. Lancaster is out of surgery and needs absolute quiet…”

“Quiet?” Thomas cut him off impatiently. “My dad already told us. He’s going to be a vegetable!”

Mary jumped in. “Gordon, what happened? Steven was perfectly fine. How did he get hurt so suddenly?”

Gordon’s expression remained unreadable. “Mr. Lancaster was involved in a minor car accident. Unfortunately, the other party held a grudge and hired someone to attack him with a knife.”

I marveled at his composure. The story was plausible enough, but something about it felt hollow. Gordon truly was Steven’s right-hand man, a master at spinning a convincing lie.

Mary put on a show of concern, asking if the attacker had been caught. Gordon simply nodded and said the police were handling it.
