Chapter 434 Got Nina To Settle Down

Daniel met Lester’s glare and instinctively shut his mouth under the intensity.

But a second later, his defiant expression returned.

“Lester, you’re glaring at me? You stole my—”

Finished

Before Daniel could finish, Lester cut him off in a low, warning tone, thick with suppressed anger.

“Shut up,” Lester hissed. “She’s sleeping.”

Nina hadn’t been asleep long. From the way she was starting to whimper, Lester had a gut feeling that if she woke up now, she’d absolutely lose it.

He hadn’t put Nina down for a nap before, but the intuition was strong.

Daniel, though starting to feel a flicker of fear at being told to shut up, refused to back down verbally.

“You think you’re Benjamin or something, trying to scare me?” Daniel retorted, but he’d already lowered his voice.

He wasn’t really yielding to Lester. He’d lowered his voice because he saw Nina was sleeping.

As the uncle who adored her, he didn’t want to wake her up

either.

“Lester, I don’t have time to argue with you. Give me Nina,” Daniel insisted. “I’m taking her home.”

He absolutely could not let Lester keep watching Nina. This guy was taking pictures and posting them! It was terrifying!

If Benjamin saw that post, it would be a disaster. He would be furious. After all these years living with him, Daniel knew Benjamin’s temper was never good.

Daniel, desperate to prevent Benjamin from being driven mad by Lester, was in a rush to get Nina away. Lester didn’t stop him.

But just as Daniel reached out to take her, Nina stirred.

Woken from a bad sleep, she was irritable.

Being so little, she couldn’t handle the physical discomfort and crankiness from interrupted sleep the way an adult could-by tolerating it or calming down quietly. Her only outlet was to

cry. And

cry she did, wailing with her eyes still tightly shut.

Daniel tried to pick her up once, but she wouldn’t let go-her little hands clung tightly to Lester’s clothes.

“Nina, don’t cry, don’t cry. It’s me, your Uncle Daniel. Uncle Daniel is here,” he soothed.

He didn’t try a second time. Seeing Nina cry, his priority shifted from taking her away to stopping her tears.

“Lester, do something!” Daniel urged frantically. “You hold her, you calm her down.”

Lester was already on his feet, pacing back and forth with Nina in his arms. The way he walked and soothed her looked practiced, like he had experience.

Daniel stayed close, gently patting Nina’s back.

They paced like that for a while, but Nina’s crying escalated into a full-blown tantrum.

She pushed Daniel’s hand away. She didn’t want Lester to hold her either. She arched her back, thrashing in his arms with her eyes squeezed shut.

Seeing her like this made Daniel break out in a nervous sweat, his own emotions starting to fray.

Lester, however, showed no panic. He just tightened his grip on Nina’s chubby little body to keep her from falling.

When she flailed her tiny fists, Lester took a few hits without a sound. He patiently comforted the upset Nina in his arms the whole time.

After what felt like an eternity, Nina, her cheeks still wet with tears, finally fell back asleep.

Daniel wanted to wipe her face but was afraid of waking her, so he held back.

Lester remained remarkably composed. Having just gone through that ordeal, his demeanor was unshaken, his expression calm.

He pulled out a wet wipe and gently cleaned Nina’s tear-streaked face.

Daniel watched nervously the entire time.

Fortunately, Nina didn’t wake up. She just nuzzled her face deeper into Lester’s chest and kept sleeping.

Her earlier outburst had left Daniel as quiet as a mouse, not daring to disturb her.
