Amelia had plenty of experience with this.

She filled Benjamin in on how Nina was doing. Nina had been through a lot in the past couple of days and was being extra clingy with Benjamin.
“Daddy, up high?” Nina asked, sitting in Benjamin’s arms for only a moment before demanding their favorite game.
She loved being tossed in the air.
Benjamin had great arm strength and could easily lift his chubby little girl.
Soon, the room was filled with Nina’s happy giggles.
Nina could play “up high” forever.
After watching for a bit, Amelia intervened, “Alright, sweetie, that’s enough. Let’s get you in the bath.”
Nina didn’t want a bath. She looked up at Benjamin with sparkling eyes. “Daddy, again!”
Benjamin could have kept going, but Amelia knew better. Nina would never stop asking for “again.” She never knew when to quit.
Back when Amelia was raising her alone, there was one night she had the idea to play a game with a bedsheet, swinging Nina in it. Nina went wild with joy.
Amelia wanted to stop after a while, but Nina insisted on another round.
It ended with Amelia putting a stop to the game, and Nina bursting into tears.
After that, it was the same pattern with every little game. Nina would start out delighted, but always end up sobbing!
Amelia was wary of inventing new games with her now.
“Benjamin, stop tossing her. I’ll run the bath. You get her undressed and take her to the bathroom first,” Amelia instructed.
“Alright,” Benjamin agreed. He lowered Nina, who predictably didn’t want to stop.
Amelia quickly filled the tub and threw in a bunch of bath toys. She then took over from a near-tearful Nina.

“Your friends are waiting for your bath,” she coaxed. “Come on, let’s get you clean, then Mommy will read you a storybook.”
Amelia efficiently got Nina ready. Once Nina was in the water, she forgot about being tossed.
Sitting in the tub, she deliberately slapped the water with her little hands, splashing Amelia right in the face.
“Nina, we don’t do that. You got Mommy all wet. That’s not nice,” Amelia said gently, coaxing her.
She was being extra patient with Nina lately, after all the trouble she’d been through.
Amelia and Benjamin had both spoken sternly to her, telling her she must never run off like that again. Nina had been genuinely scared this time. When they explained, she nodded hard and promised she wouldn’t do it again.
In the bathroom, Nina played for a good half hour before they got her out. She hadn’t listened well during her bath, but she didn’t get scolded for it this time.
Nina was always like this-she hated getting in the bath, but once she was in the tub, she didn’t want to get out.
Amelia wrapped her in a big towel and carried her out. Benjamin took over, drying her and getting her into her pajamas.
Amelia was pretty damp by then, so while Benjamin looked after Nina, she went to take a shower herself.
While Amelia was in the shower, Nina, playing on the bed, kept trying to grab Benjamin’s phone.
“Daddy! Call!” Nina urged.
Benjamin dodged her chubby little hands. “Who do you want to call?” he asked.
Nina answered without a second’s thought, “Un-coo Sam!”
She kept repeating “Un-coo Sam.” Benjamin frowned. “What ‘Uncle Sam’? Who’s that?”
He had no idea where this name had come from, and he certainly didn’t know who she was talking about.
He asked Nina, but she couldn’t explain that “Un-coo Sam” was Lester.
She just insisted stubbornly, “Call Un-coo Sam.”

While he was puzzling over this, back at the hospital, William was talking to Lester.
“So, when are you planning to tell Benjamin?” William asked. “Should I call and have him come over?”
William was eager for the brothers to reconnect. He even wanted to bring Chloe over from home so the whole family could be together.
