After leaving Laila’s courtyard, I gathered everyone in the household and told them about my plan to break the mate bond with Laila, asking them to prepare for tomorrow’s Elder Council meeting.

I didn’t mention the banishment. That had just been harsh words spoken in anger. I wouldn’t actually let Laila fall into such a pitiful situation

However, my older brother, Gareth Enclaw, still disagreed.

“Holt, you’re destroying your own future. Think about it. How many soldiers in the army served under Laila’s father? The only reason you achieved such glory this time was because they supported you. Once you lose their backing, do you really think your position in the military will hold?”

“But she’s using Mom’s health to threaten me. I can’t take it anymore!” I said, clenching my fists.

My mother had already recovered. She nodded vigorously. “Break the mate bond! You must break it! And not just that. We need to banish her too! Damn her! She shouldn’t be allowed to take a single penny with her!”

“Mom!” I frowned. “I don’t want her money!”

I cut Gareth off. “I simply can’t stand having such a petty, selfish, scheming woman as my Luna anymore. I’ve given it a lot of thought. The Battle of Vagen isn’t over yet. I doubt Prince Vance can fully defeat those wolves from the Ovila Kingdom. They’ll definitely need reinforcements eventually. When that happens, Maris and I can join as backup forces. We won on the Lovanfall Battlefield, and we can win at Vagen too. Reclaiming Vagen would be a legendary achievement.”

Ever since those bastards from the Ovila Kingdom seized Vagen, we’d been fighting them for years without reclaiming it. Even the Conlays from the Silvermoon Pack had died there.
