Chapter 148 I Am Laila Conlay!
Laila’s POV:
The rain hadn’t stopped, but we left anyway.
Lucky for us, the rain cleared by the time we reached Frostfang Pack.
A rainbow arced across the sky.

I told Pearl to wait outside, then carried the wooden box and headed straight for Alpha Hugo and Estelle’s den.
The guards at the gate recognized me and blocked the way-after the birthday banquet, I was famous here.
“Halt. The Luna has ordered that Laila of Silvermoon Pack is not to set foot past this threshold.”
The older guard on the other side looked even grimmer, fangs half-bared, a low growl rumbling in his throat. “The tab from the last banquet hasn’t been settled, and you walk in on your own? One more step, and it’s a declaration of war on our Luna’s territory.”
I didn’t answer.
I dropped low, coiled, and in one fluid motion twisted into a clean arc before launching into the air.
Not a shoulder vault.
A wolf’s leap.
Midair, fur burst from my spine and vanished just as fast. By the time my four paws hit the ground, I’d already cleared the first line of defense.
The second guard lunged. I twisted past his claws, kicked off the ground again-and in a few bounds I was a streak of silver-gray light, tearing straight into the inner chambers.
Behind me, the guard captain’s howl ripped through the post-rain silence.
“After her! She’s heading for the inner quarters-seal the den!”
Too late.

I tore aside the bone-bead curtain of the Moon Pavilion. Twilight and damp post-rain air rushed in together.
Estelle was reclining on a fur-draped settee, a cup of moon-honey tea on the low table before her-brewed the Frostfang way, from tundra moss flowers and moonlit dew, reserved for royal bloodlines only.
She’d clearly just woken from a nap and was reaching for a candied rock berry.
The moment she saw me, that mask of composure cracked like old porcelain.
“Laila-how dare you barge into my private chambers?!”
I said nothing.
Behind me, a maid’s shriek cut through the silence. “Guards! Protect the Luna! Intruder—”
Footsteps thundered in from every direction..
The guard captain and his elites were already closing in on the corridor, claws bared, growls building in their throats.
Estelle suddenly raised her hand and barked, “Wait!”
Her eyes were locked on the laurel-wood box in my hands.
She recognized it.
I smiled coldly. “Shall I open it right here?”
Her face drained of color. “Everyone out! Guard the door-now!”
The guards exchanged bewildered glances, then obeyed.
The doors swung shut behind me with a heavy thud.
Estelle’s gaze pinned me. “You think because you’ve latched onto Samuel, you have the right to bare your fangs at me? Breaking into an Alpha’s territory, assaulting royal guards-that alone is enough for me to have the kingdom’s council strip your hide and nail it to a shame post to dry.”
I met her stare and didn’t give an inch.
“Big words are easy. But you want to try?-You threaten my life, and I can tear out your throat and rip open the side of your neck right here, right now.
