Chapter 71 Maris Is Missing
Thirdperson POV:
The Solantian werewolf warriors had withdrawn
Ovilan’s soldiers followed closely behind.
The Rydar Kingdom’s soldiers froze for a moment.
They were ready to die for their kingdom, and now it was over so quickly?
Everyone could hardly believe it.
But once they were sure, tears came even before excitement.
Vagen had finally been reclaimed.
And they could go home alive to see their families.
No one liked war if they could avoid it.
Everyone, including Holt, felt their eyes get a little misty.
But soon, he noticed Maris was missing.
He tried to reach her through their mind link-they were marked mates and could communicate that way.
But he couldn’t get through for a long time.

Finally, the mind link flickered on, and only a brief sentence came through, “Save me! I’ve been captured…”
“Captured by who? Where are you?”
Holt tried to link again, but no matter what, he couldn’t reach her.
He sent people to investigate, and soon a soldier reported back.
“General Duffy chased a small group of enemy troops out of the town earlier.”
“When?”
“Before the enemy had fully retreated…”

“Didn’t you see her? Why didn’t you stop her!” Holt shouted, kicking a soldier in anger.
The soldier fell to the ground, equally frustrated. “General Enclaw, we wanted to stop her too, but General Duffy just wouldn’t listen. You know her temper-we couldn’t hold her back!”
“Sorry, I was too impatient,” Holt apologized.
He calmed down and realized he’d crossed the line. He reached out and helped the soldier to his feet.
He knew the soldier was right-they really couldn’t stop Maris.
But why would the enemy lure her into a chase?
Just then, the soldier added, “General Enclaw, I don’t know if I’m seeing things, but I feel like those wolves were from the Solantian, not Ovilan.”
“What do you mean?” Holt asked, puzzled.
“Ovilan’s werewolves have lived on the islands for years. You can always smell the sea on them. But those wolves…” The soldier sniffed, thinking hard. “They didn’t smell like the sea. Instead, I think I saw blue-and-white war markings on them.”
“Blue-and-white war markings…” Holt repeated softly.
He knew that Solantian werewolves like to paint their bodies with special deep blue and white mineral pigments, creating war totems that symbolized their victories, family, and prayers for protection.
So, those really were Solantian werewolf soldiers?
But why?
Holt froze for a moment and suddenly remembered what had happened on the Lovanfall Battlefield.
He had asked Maris how she managed to get Silas to agree to sign the contract.
Her answer back then was, “I went around Deervale City shouting that Prince Vance had
