Meanwhile, while the Miller mansion was still filled with the small argument between Naomi and Chris over the nickname “Princess,” which was pushing the girl dangerously close to the end of her patience, on the other side of the city, Daven and Althea had just entered the largest supermarket in Sun City.
The moment the shopping cart was in Daven’s hands, Althea immediately pulled out the long list she had prepared that morning. Daven glanced at the paper once before raising an eyebrow. “I’m starting to suspect we’re preparing for a month-long expedition.”
Althea did not even turn around to respond to what her husband had just said. “We’re bringing a lot of people.”
“We’re only camping for two days.”
Daven chuckled. “Alright, then let’s fill up the cart.”
Althea clicked her tongue before starting down the aisle where the supplies she needed were located. Every so often, she glanced at her list to make sure nothing was forgotten. Behind her, Daven pushed the shopping cart at an easy pace, both hands resting on the handlebar while his gaze remained completely fixed on his wife.
Althea completely ignored her husband’s stare. She was busy sorting through fresh ingredients, several packages of snacks, and various seasonings for the barbecue.
When they reached the fresh fish and meat section, Daven faithfully accompanied Althea as she selected which items to buy.
“You know, Althea, if you stare at that steak any longer, I think it might cook itself before we even get to the campsite,” Daven teased with a faint smile.
Althea immediately turned toward him and snorted softly, though she could not hide the amused sparkle in her beautiful eyes. “Don’t start, Daven. I just want to make sure these cuts are perfect for grilling later.”
The woman stepped closer as she placed several packs of steak into their supplies. “We need to prepare the best food for the children and everyone else.”
Daven chuckled softly and pushed the cart forward another step so he could stand right beside his wife. Then they moved on to another section—fresh fruits and vegetables. After that, they headed toward the children’s supplies aisle. Their warm discussion continued, carefully considering which meals Josh, Grace, and Eli would most likely enjoy during their time outdoors.
