“Welcome home, Mrs. Lydia, Mr. Cale,” the servants greeted them as soon as they entered the living room. Most of them had been waiting for the homeowners to return.
Even though Lydia had repeatedly asked them not to do that, they always responded with the same agreement. “We have to make sure that you and Mr. Cale arrive home safely and in good condition.”
Lydia smiled faintly and nodded in response to all of their greetings. She no longer protested when one of them stepped forward to take her belongings, whether it was her handbag or the travel coat she was wearing. Just like Cale.
“Would you like dinner? Or perhaps a snack before bed?” asked Sofia, one of the servants assigned to the kitchen area.
“Just prepare some coffee, tea, and cookies. We’ve already had dinner,” Lydia said.
“Yes, Mrs. Lydia.”
Lydia seemed to be watching Chris, who had already started climbing the stairs, carrying Naomi without any sign of difficulty.
“You don’t need to worry,” Cale said as he stepped closer and wrapped an arm around Lydia’s waist. “There’s no way Chris would drop Naomi.”
Lydia rolled her eyes in annoyance, but she did not move away from him. Instead, she leaned slightly against her husband’s shoulder without caring that several servants were still nearby. Understanding the situation, they quietly stepped aside and left their masters to their affection.
“I know,” Lydia replied softly. “You don’t mind having coffee in the bedroom, do you? It feels a little tiring to sit in the lounge tonight.”
Cale chuckled. “How could I possibly mind spending the evening with you?”
Lydia scoffed and tried to remove her husband's hand from her waist. Before leaving, she glanced once more to make sure Chris had reached the second floor safely.
Satisfied, she headed toward their bedroom in the right wing of the house. Meanwhile, Cale followed his wife with a restrained smile.
It did not take long for them to arrive at their room, and the servants had already prepared everything Lydia had requested. Cale had just removed his tie when Lydia walked over, trying to suppress a smile. There was a playful glimmer in her eyes that her husband immediately noticed.
“What?” Cale asked, noticing the meaningful look.
Lydia shook her head slightly, but her smile did not fade. “I was just thinking about something.”
She helped her husband remove the tie he had just loosened, as well as the cufflinks attached to the shirt he was wearing.
