Lydia stared at her husband for several seconds before finally laughing softly.
“Good heavens, Cale.”
“What?”
“You really are excellent at reading business,” Lydia said cheerfully.
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
“But when it comes to things like this, you’re truly slow.”
Cale frowned. Resting his head on one hand, he continued looking at his wife intently.
“Slow?”
“Very slow,” Lydia said again.
She picked up Cale’s coffee and handed it to him. Then she took her own tea, enjoying it while spending the remaining time before they finally went to sleep.
“Chris started looking different whenever he was around Naomi. Maybe... after the camping trip?”
“Really?”
Lydia nodded without hesitation.
“I don’t believe it,” Cale argued. “There’s no way Chris is seriously interested in Naomi. Their communication is terrible.”
“That’s because Chris spends more time teasing Naomi.”
Lydia took a small sip of her tea, slowly closing her eyes as she enjoyed the sweet, soothing taste that filled her mouth.
“But I feel that Chris pays more attention to Naomi.”
“Why are you so sure?”
Cale set down his coffee cup after taking a small sip.
“Just a feeling.”
Lydia set her own cup down as well.
“No wonder Chris didn’t complain when you asked for his help protecting Naomi the way you wanted. Even though... the two of you argued about it, didn’t you?”
“Of course.”
Cale let out a long sigh.
“But everything turned out exactly as I expected. If Naomi hadn’t arrived with Chris tonight, I’m sure Silas would have monopolized her attention.”
