Lydia slowly turned toward her husband. "Did you hear that, Cale?"
Cale frowned deeply.
"Chris just told me 'none of your business.'"
"And?" Cale asked innocently.
Lydia let out a frustrated sigh at her husband's reaction. "Good grief. You're really slow."
Before the atmosphere at the dining table could become even more awkward, Chris casually cut into the conversation. "I'm taking Naomi to visit a few universities today."
Naomi immediately looked up in surprise, nearly dropping her spoon. "Wait, I—"
"That's a good idea," Lydia cut in quickly, giving Naomi no chance to refuse. She then turned to her husband. "You don't mind, Cale?"
"No," Cale replied flatly, though his brows drew together slightly as he was still trying to understand the unusual exchange between Lydia and Chris that morning.
Naomi shot both of them irritated looks in turn, but neither paid any attention to her silent protest.
Now fully invested in the conversation, Cale spoke up as well. "Which universities?"
"Several that are already on Naomi's shortlist," Chris answered calmly. He then turned slightly in his seat, focusing on Naomi, who still looked flustered by this sudden plan. "Which ones?"
Before Naomi could recall her list of universities, Cale interrupted again in an interrogative tone, "How long will you be gone?"
"Not sure."
"Are you driving yourself?" Cale asked, making sure, ensuring both his brother's and Naomi's safety.
"Yes."
"Daniel isn't coming? Or Vincent?"
