Hearing York say he didn't have a girlfriend, Claudia’s mood instantly brightened.
She knew it.
York had just been teasing her.
Getting a girlfriend isn't like buying something from a store; you can't just have one and then not have one a moment later.
Claudia mumbled to herself as she stood up, shooting York a sideways glance.
York rose and dusted off the back of her pants, then took her hand and led her toward the car nearby.
Claudia playfully swung his arm, refusing to budge. “You said you had a girlfriend before. So, how far did things go between you two?”
York gently removed her hand from his arm and paused to think for a moment.
Seeing his serious expression, Claudia scoffed inwardly. *He doesn't have one. He's just putting on an act.*
With a straight face, York said, “She was injured saving me, and then she pursued me for a year. We dated for two months.”
“And that’s it?” Claudia asked.
“That’s it.”
Satisfied, Claudia’s lips curled into a smile. “Well, I’m not your girlfriend. Why are you telling me all this?”
“Weren’t you the one who asked?”
Suddenly angry, Claudia stomped her foot. “So you have to answer just because I ask?”
York was speechless.
Claudia’s mood soured inexplicably, and she started chasing York, punching and hitting him.
“You really had a girlfriend?”
“A perfectly good catch like you, wasted on some random girl!”
York grabbed her hands, stopping her antics.
Claudia responded by biting him on the chest.
York rubbed the spot where she’d bitten him.
He patiently explained, “Don’t worry. I’m completely untouched. We didn't even hold hands.”
At his explanation, Claudia finally stopped fussing.
Muttering, she linked her arm with his and nuzzled her head against his arm.
If they hadn't even held hands, then he hadn't really been claimed by anyone else.
He was still hers, clean and pure.
Claudia issued a domineering warning, “If you dare get a girlfriend before I graduate, I’ll bury you under the big oak tree in my yard and use you as fertilizer!”
Their eyes met, but York said nothing.
He opened the passenger door for her and, once she was in, leaned over to buckle her seatbelt.
Not far away, Peter sat in his car, watching them drive off. He clicked his tongue twice. “So that’s how it is.”

After safely dropping Claudia off at home and greeting her parents, York left.
Jessica stopped her daughter on the stairs. “I thought you said York had a girlfriend. Why did he bring you home?”
