The old lady put on a smile and walked forward, suddenly taking Elena's hand affectionately. "Elena, Grandma was confused in her old age. Don't hold it against me. I know you're a good child. Let's not mention the past anymore. Since things have come to this, I'll send some gifts to Claire later as a comfort. You take them to her. When there's time, I'll have Cathy apologize to Claire personally!"
Elena pulled her hand back.
The old fox was certainly cunning. Just moments ago, she was shaking with rage, and now she looked like a benevolent grandmother. It gave Elena the creeps.
"No need. Claire doesn't care. Since Cathy stole someone else's man, she should have kept her head down instead of getting carried away and thinking she won. If she hadn't sent those texts to provoke and mock Claire, I wouldn't have shown up today. Dylan is right; she brought this on herself!"
"What do you mean brought it on..." Maggie almost blurted out again.
Edward quickly stopped her. Even the old lady had softened her stance; how could they dare to speak? If they did, the old lady would skin them alive later.
"In that case, if there's nothing else, we'll take our leave!" Dylan said.
"Why don't you stay for dinner?" the old lady asked.
"No thanks. Mom, Dad, let's go!" Elena called to Daniel and Amanda.
The family left together.
Once outside, Amanda patted her chest. "That was too close. I really thought we wouldn't escape today."
"Yes, it's all thanks to Dylan coming over," Daniel said gratefully.
Elena pouted. "Mom, Dad, it wasn't that serious. Even without Dylan, I could have kept you safe!"
"You don't know your grandmother's methods. Just thinking about it scares me."
The way Elena saw it, Amanda had lived under the old lady's control for so long that she was traumatized. That was why she was so fearful.
