Was her beating all for nothing?
"Don't blame anyone else for this. Look at other people's daughters—they all have powerful backing. Jane has Sean Maddox, Elena has Dylan. Look at what you have! You're nothing but an embarrassment to me. You even struggled just to nail down a guy like Justin!"
"Fine, go ahead and blame me too! You were the ones who said Dylan was crippled and looked down on him. Otherwise, he would be my fiancé right now!"
On the other end of the line, Maggie Whelan was furious. "You're still thinking about Dylan? You're married to Justin now, so get your head out of the clouds! Be a good daughter-in-law to the Carter family and stop causing trouble for me!"
Having said her piece, Maggie hung up.
Cathy threw her phone onto the bed in frustration.
She looked up at the clock on the wall. It was already eleven o'clock. Why wasn't Justin back yet?
Just as she was about to go out and check, the door suddenly swung open.
Justin stumbled in from the outside, wasted.
"Honey, why did you drink so much?" Cathy asked, confused.
Even though Elena had ruined the wedding reception, Justin hadn't been drinking then. And even if he went out to celebrate with friends afterward, there was no reason to get this plastered.
"Get away from me!" Justin shoved Cathy aside violently.
Cathy stared at him in disbelief. He actually pushed her!
"Justin, I am your wife. Tonight is our wedding night, and you come home completely wasted? Do you even have any respect for me?" Cathy stepped forward and grabbed Justin's shirt, demanding an answer.
"Wife? Respect? In my heart, there is only Claire. Claire is the one I love. When I married you, I made it very clear that it was only because of the baby. I didn't want to be irresponsible. You got the wedding you wanted. You got everything you asked for. What more do you want?"
