Lorna was vain, yes, but compared to everything Arthur had done for their family, it was nothing.
Theresa had endured a few snide remarks, but she was entirely unharmed.
"I understand, Dad. I know what to do now," Theresa said, her voice heavy with realization.
Victor patted her shoulder, proud of her maturity.

Back inside, the illusion had shattered for Lorna. She had lost all interest in playing hostess and quickly made up an excuse to send everyone home.
Once the mansion was empty, Arthur marched into the living room.
"Dad, did the Chairman..."
Smack!
Arthur delivered a stinging slap across her face.
"Dad! Why are you hitting me?" Lorna cried out, holding her cheek. "How many times are you going to hit me today? Do you really hate me that much?"
"Look at the way you're behaving! Shouldn't I hit you?" Arthur yelled, his voice trembling with rage. "You are out of control! How am I supposed to face the Chairman after this?"
"What do you mean? He didn't expose me!" Lorna argued, tears streaming down her face. "He said she was the fake!"
"You absolute fool!" Arthur growled. "He saw right through you. He just didn't say it out loud! He never said you were the real one. And that girl tonight? She isn't a fake! That is Miss Theresa! The Chairman only did that to save your pride—no, to save my pride! He did it out of pity for me!"
"What... what are you talking about? Theresa is real? No, that's impossible! The Chairman literally told you to throw her out!"
"Idiot! I've spent my whole life building an honorable reputation, and somehow I raised a fool!" Arthur was practically choking on his disappointment.
"Come with me. We are going to see the Chairman right now."
"No! I'm not going!" Lorna panicked, backing away.
