But instead of apologizing, Lorna lashed out. "If you knew the whole time, why didn't you just say something? Why did you let me make a fool of myself?"
Theresa sighed, realizing the girl still hadn't grasped the reality of the situation.
"I went to the company undercover at my dad's request. And for the record, I did tell you the dress was mine, and that this was my house. But you were so blinded by everyone kissing up to you that you refused to listen. If you had used an ounce of common sense, you wouldn't be in this position."
"Oh, so I just deserve to be trampled on by you?" Lorna screamed, completely losing her grip.
"Lorna, how dare you speak to Miss Theresa like that! You—"
"Shut up!" Lorna snapped at her father. "If you want to bow and scrape, fine, but I won't! Why isn't my father a billionaire? Why do I have to be just a butler's daughter? It's because you're useless! It's your fault I have to live in someone else's shadow!"
"You... how could you..." Arthur gasped, staring at his daughter as if she were a monster.
Her eyes were bloodshot, completely consumed by an obsessive greed she couldn't escape.
"I'm not apologizing. I didn't do anything wrong! I will never bow down to her!" Lorna yelled. "I know I can't stay here anymore. Don't worry, I'll leave myself!"
Without another word, Lorna turned and bolted from the room.
"Lorna..."
Watching his daughter run off, Arthur buried his face in his hands, completely broken by her cruel words.
"Arthur, stop. Don't do this to yourself," Victor intervened, gently pulling the man's hands away.
"Mr. Ellington, I failed as a father. This is all my fault. I am so sorry," Arthur sobbed.
Victor patted his shoulder firmly. "It's alright. Give her some time to cool off. It's a lot for her to process all at once."
Theresa stepped forward. "Arthur, I don't blame you at all. Please don't be so hard on yourself."
