Richard let out a cold and sharp laugh. "What do I mean? I am handing you your freedom. From this second on, you are no longer a Stint. You can do whatever the hell you want without having to hide from me. Is that not what you have always wanted? Now you can chase your happiness in broad daylight."
Renee’s eyes glazed over in shock. "No. You can not do this. We have Jane. You can not be this heartless."
"Do not you dare bring Jane into this!" Richard roared. "Look at her! Look at what you have done to your own daughter! What have you been feeding her all these years? Have you ever actually cared about her? You spent every waking hour with Nicholas obsessing over poisons and now look. You got exactly what you deserved. Jane is dying because of your obsession. I thought your research was a hobby but I never imagined you were doing all of this just to spite a man who has not thought about you in decades. Was being married to me really that much of a burden?"
Renee shook her head frantically, her tears blurring her vision. "No. That is not it. I was just bitter. I could not let go of the humiliation. I wanted him to hurt like I did. You have to believe me!"
Richard’s face remained a mask of cold indifference. "Save it. It is way too late for explanations. We have been married long enough. Let us just end it. My father is waiting for me to settle this."
He did not give her a chance to respond before gesturing to the man behind him. "The agreement. Get her to sign it now."
