She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 564

As Corinne kept up her steady stream of nostalgic chatter, Loyce pulled a pen and a notepad from her bag and began writing a prescription.

While writing, she subtly angled her body toward the elderly woman. Every so often, she would tap the cap of her pen against the paper, pretending to be deep in thought. The rhythm of her tapping shifted—sometimes fast, sometimes slow.

Once she finished, she handed the paper to Corinne. "After being ill for so long, getting her to speak or move freely again will be a massive uphill battle. For now, I can only prescribe some supplements and neural-stimulants to be administered via IV, at least until I can identify the exact nature of the toxin."

Corinne took the prescription and let out a heavy sigh. "A few specialists mentioned she might have accidentally inhaled some sort of toxic gas. After launching an investigation, we discovered it was a combination of a rare mushroom called Mirage Fungus and a flower known as the Stygian Lily."

Loyce was familiar with both highly lethal plants. The Mirage Fungus, found deep within the South American rainforests, released spores packed with a potent neurotoxin. The Stygian Lily, which only grew in a specific, hidden valley in the Himalayas, produced pollen that caused severe muscle paralysis and organ failure.

Combining the two would theoretically create a complex compound that stripped a person of all motor and verbal functions, while leaving their consciousness completely intact and agonizingly alert—just like the woman lying in the bed before them.

Moreover, importing such heavily restricted bio-toxins into Harmony Country would require a staggering amount of money, effort, and highly illegal connections.

Loyce pondered for a moment before saying, "Admiral Lucian Shapiro was also hit with a severe neurotoxin. He's managing it quite well with his current medication, but unfortunately, the formula I developed for him wouldn't be suitable for your grandmother's specific condition."

At the mention of Lucian's name, a spark of life flashed in the elderly woman's eyes. Her finger tapped out another frantic string of Morse code against the sheets, spelling out a specific location.

Corinne remained entirely oblivious to the secret exchange. "I've heard legends about your medical prowess," Corinne praised. "Even a titan like Heath calls you his master. I'm sure you'll find a way."

Loyce casually glanced around the room. "I noticed you have a lot of vintage photographs in here."

"My grandmother used to be a female pilot," Corinne explained proudly. "Our family has always been deeply patriotic, dedicating our lives to government service. I'm the outlier, dedicating my time to animal conservation instead."

Loyce offered a polite smile, neither confirming nor denying her belief in the story.

Ultimately, Loyce agreed to take on the elderly woman's case.

Watching Loyce's car disappear down the driveway, the friendly warmth vanished from Corinne's face, replaced by a cold, calculating shadow.

An older woman stepped out from the shadows behind Corinne. Making sure the car was completely out of sight, she whispered, "Did she ask too many questions?"
