"Look into it?" Forrest repeated, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Your wife didn't seem particularly interested in the truth when she was trying to force a confession out of an innocent child."
"You don't need to look into it!" Leticia interrupted, her voice shaking with panic. "I already said I'd apologize! Let's just say my son lied, and we'll leave it at that!"
Loyce watched her squirm. Leticia definitely knew her son had stolen the toy.
"Oh, there's no need to force an apology," Loyce said smoothly. "If my brother and I are in the wrong, your husband will keep his job, and I'll apologize to you personally."
"No apology necessary! As long as I can keep my position, we're perfectly fine!" Gideon added, thinking he was being diplomatic.
The arcade manager cleared his throat and held up his tablet. "I pulled the footage. Your son grabbed the limited edition prize directly from the other boy, and your wife blindly defended him without asking a single question. If an apology is owed, it's definitely from you."
He tapped play, turning the screen for everyone to see.
The video was crystal clear. The smaller boy stood excitedly by the prize wheel, cheering as the needle landed on the jackpot. He opened the glass door and pulled out the robot. Seconds later, the chubby boy and his friends swarmed him, shoved him against the machine, and ripped the toy from his hands. Then Leticia stormed into the frame, screaming, waving money around, and acting like an absolute tyrant.
Irrefutable proof.
Leticia's face turned ash-gray. Her lips parted, but no sound came out.
The crowd erupted in disgusted mutters, and someone in the back shouted, "Good on you, Mr. Lonsdale! It takes a real leader to stand up for the little guy!"
Gideon stared at the screen, watching his wife behave like a monster and his son act like a seasoned thief. The room spun. Cold sweat soaked through his dress shirt.
"Do you see it now?" Forrest asked, his voice deathly quiet. "This is your 'harmless' wife and your thieving son."
"Mr. Lonsdale, I... I..." Gideon stammered, knowing there was no defense.
He spun around, all his terror and despair crystallizing into explosive rage. He raised his hand and slapped Leticia across the face with a sickening crack.
