Damian had never thought much of it before, but as time went on, more and more incidents pointed to Aurora's behavior becoming pathological.
Isabelle stood to the side, packing the thermal containers into a bag, paying no mind to the pointless argument.
"Ashley, don't go too far!" Aurora said, emboldened by Damian' intervention.
"Me? You're the one with issues—not with your heart, but with your head," Ashley retorted, dropping all pretense.
"What right do you have to judge me? When Dami was injured, you hid overseas for two years, letting him pull through alone, and now you have the nerve to come back and try to win him over..." Aurora shot back, unwilling to back down.
"I wasn't hiding! I never got the messages..." Ashley's gaze shifted to Damian, hoping for his support.
But he offered no response, simply refilling a water glass with water.
Aurora yelled, "Ashley, if I were you, I'd disappear and save myself the humiliation!"
"I don't expect Damian to forgive me, but a decent man wouldn't touch someone like you with a ten-foot pole!" Ashley fired back.
The two women argued back and forth.
Damian finished clearing the table and walked out without a word.
The argument died abruptly.
He looks so pitiful. Isabelle's eyes turned cold as she shot Aurora a contemptuous glare. "Idiot!"
Aurora was startled by Isabelle's look and instinctively clutched her chest.
Ashley snorted in disdain and hurried after Damian.
Isabelle had no desire to stay either. She picked up the thermal containers and the coat he'd left behind and walked out.
Aurora gritted her teeth, her hands clenched into tight fists.
She had wanted to pick them off one by one, but it seemed she was no match for any of them.
Outside the inpatient building, by the roadside, Brian rushed over. He had only exchanged a few words with Damian when Ashley caught up.
Damian ignored her, continuing to give Brian instructions until Brian left.
Once Brian was gone, Ashley stepped in front of Damian, blocking his path.
Her eyes were full of hurt as she looked at the man who had once adored her. Now, his eyes held no light, not even a flicker of emotion.
"Can you please just hear me out?" Ashley asked, her voice humble.
He said nothing, his cold gaze fixed on her.
Tentatively, Ashley reached out to take his hand.
Damian pulled back, shoving both hands into his pockets, waiting for her to speak with clear impatience.
