Unrequited love was an exhausting role to play.
But she didn't. She said nothing.
Telling Ashley would only add to her distress and bring unnecessary trouble to herself.
Some things, you had to run into the wall head-on to understand.
You had to experience it yourself, regret it yourself.
Only then could you let go.
Isabelle shook her head. Fine, let her be.
Just then, Diana managed to break away from the crowd and came over to sit on the secluded couch with them. "What's this about believing or not believing? The more you push yourself on him, the more he'll resent you."
Ashley seemed surprised that Diana would engage with her personal issue.
"Honestly, with your qualifications, you should look at other men. Why go back to the old one? His heart isn't with you. Throwing yourself at him only lowers your own value." Diana was far less delicate than Isabelle.
Ashley just smiled.
She only half-listened to such advice. "I don't want to live with regrets."
Isabelle and Diana exchanged a look but said nothing more.
Ashley didn't want to dwell on the topic either and changed the subject. "I saw the name 'Muddlehead' on the government designer shortlist—heard they were selected. Ms. Williams, is there any chance you could introduce us?"
Diana was stunned, glancing at Isabelle.
Ashley quickly added, "Nothing too formal. There's plenty of time."
Diana smiled politely, "Muddlehead prefers to avoid attention, but perhaps we can all exchange ideas someday."
It was a gentle refusal.
Still, at Ashley's invitation, the two exchanged contact info.
After a long chat, Ashley left the event.
Diana remarked, "She's quite persistent."
Isabelle smiled in agreement.
Ashley's personality was determined. Finley must have raised her well.
They were related by blood, after all.
It seems I underestimated her.
I thought Damian's rejection would make her give up.
Instead, she's getting more determined. I have to admit, it's admirable.
Just then, an unknown number flashed on Isabelle's phone.
She didn't answer, letting it ring out.
"Who was that?" Diana asked.
"No idea." Isabelle shrugged her shoulders.
"You stay here. I'm going to the restroom."
"Okay."
Right after Diana left, the phone started vibrating again.
Annoyed, she finally answered, "Hello."
"Isabelle, it was you, wasn't it? You had Damian do it."
She frowned, pulling the phone away from her ear to look at the unfamiliar number.
That voice... probably Nicole's.

Because of me?
He cheated, married another woman, and it's because of me?
How noble!
How does Isabelle know?
