Cerys shot Victoria a quick look, worried it would upset her. She quickly closed the news pop-up, muttering, "These ads are getting ridiculous, popping up all over the place."
"Cerys, I'm fine. You don't have to be so tense."
Cerys rubbed her nose, looking flustered. "I'm not tense. I just can't stand these pop-up ads."
She reached over and shut the laptop.
"Stop looking at that. You've been staring at the computer all evening, more focused than you ever were studying for finals back in school…"
Suddenly, something clicked in Victoria's mind.
She grabbed Cerys's wrist. "Say that again."
"Huh?"
Victoria looked at her intently. "What you just said. Say it again."
Cerys was confused, but meeting Victoria's determined gaze, she repeated herself. "Stop looking at that. You've been staring at the computer all evening, more focused than you ever were in school—"
School...
Of course. How could she have forgotten?
"I know where else we can check to see if Genevieve's name was on that intern list."
Cerys blinked, her voice uncertain. "...The school?"
"Exactly. I remember my advisor once mentioned that copies of the internship records for every distinguished graduate are kept in the school's archives."
At that, realization dawned on Cerys, and she shot to her feet. "I remember that! And Genevieve was one of the distinguished graduates that year. Her internship records must be in the archives. If we can get the school to let us see them, we'll know for sure if she interned at The Sanger Group."
Victoria nodded. "Cerys, I have to go on this business trip, and we can't let this wait. I'm going to have to ask you to try and get those records from the school."
Cerys's eyes shone with excitement. "It's no trouble at all! You go on your trip, and leave this to me. I'll get to the bottom of it!"
She clenched her fists and punched the air. "She'd better hope I don't find any dirty little secrets!"
She’d hated Genevieve for a long time and was dying for a chance to rip off her perfect little mask.
"Whether you find anything or not, Cerys, please be careful and stay safe," Victoria said, a little worried. Genevieve had been willing to resort to murder to protect her secret. If she found out Cerys was investigating her, there was no telling what she might do.
Cerys patted her shoulder. "Don't worry. With the Thorne name behind me, Genevieve can’t lay a finger on me."
