The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 109

The Shawn Group Project Site in Havenport.

"Victoria, why are you still up?" Sunny Lewis yawned as she walked into the office.

The Shawn Group's project was massive, with the preparations alone taking over half a year.

Now that construction had just begun, many of the facilities were still incomplete. Even the dorms and offices were just temporary structures made from shipping containers.

"There are still a few data points on the B-zone blueprints that need to be confirmed. I have to get it done before work starts tomorrow," Victoria said. As the lead designer, she needed to be on-site during the initial phase to verify all the specifications and ensure no design flaws led to accidents.

Since arriving in Havenport for the business trip, she and Sunny had been working almost non-stop for over ten days.

"Doesn't it start tomorrow afternoon? We still have the whole morning. You've been running around all day. You should get some rest so you'll be fresh tomorrow."

Victoria looked at Sunny, whose eyelids were drooping, and smiled. "I can't sleep until I finish this. Don't worry, I'm fine. You should go get some sleep."

Sunny was too tired to argue. "Alright then... but don't stay up too late."

Victoria nodded. Sunny yawned again and shuffled out of the office, her eyes half-closed.

The phone on her desk buzzed twice.

It was a text from Cerys: [Victoria, I saw the weather forecast. It looks like there might be heavy rain in Havenport tomorrow. Be safe.]

Victoria replied with a sticker of a cat acknowledging the message. She was about to put her phone down and get back to the data when Cerys called.

She answered, "Cerys."

"Victoria, why are you still awake so late?"

Victoria kept her eyes on the computer screen and countered, "Shouldn't I be asking you that?"

Cerys sighed, sounding agitated. "I can't sleep. I'm too angry."

Victoria paused. "What's wrong?"

The line was quiet for a moment as if Cerys was trying to decide what to say. Finally, she sighed again. "Never mind. I'll tell you when you get back. You're coming back the day after tomorrow, right?"

"Yes. If the B-zone launch goes smoothly tomorrow, the initial phase of this project will be complete."

"I'll pick you up then," Cerys said, changing the subject as she rolled over in bed. "By the way, Victoria, do you remember that little stray kitten? After you left, I went downstairs a few times to try and feed it, but I never saw it again. Do you think property management got rid of it?"

An image of the little black cat flashed in Victoria's mind. "It's a smart little thing. I doubt it would be that easy to catch. It's also possible someone saw it and took it home."

After all, a month-old kitten wasn't very wild.

"Aw, really?" Cerys said, disappointed. "I can't have pets at home, so I was hoping I could at least get my fix by feeding the strays at your place."

Victoria smiled but didn't say anything.

Cerys must have been truly unable to sleep, as she kept her on the phone chatting for a while longer. It was only when she saw how late it was that she finally hung up.
