The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 115

Elias felt her gaze on him and looked over.

But his eyes met hers for only a second before he looked away.

Mr. Jenkins exchanged a few pleasantries with Elias. Worried about the elderly villagers, he quickly returned to check on them.

Daisy, frightened and exhausted from the long walk up the mountain, was running on empty. Once she saw that Victoria was safe, the tension left her small body. She curled up on a blanket and fell asleep within minutes.

Victoria leaned against the wall, her mind a chaotic jumble of Sunny's and Daisy's words.

She lowered her gaze. Perhaps from sheer exhaustion, her thoughts began to drift, and before she could make sense of anything, she fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.

Elias had gone outside to find a signal to contact Hawk. When he returned, he was met with the sight of Victoria and Daisy, one big and one small, sleeping peacefully. He glanced at the bottle of liniment in his hand, which he had borrowed from Mr. Jenkins on his way back.

He walked over and turned on his phone's flashlight, pointing it at Victoria's ankle.

Her ankle was only slightly thicker than her wrist, so slender it looked like he could easily encircle it with one hand. The joint of her left foot was clearly red and swollen, a stark, angry contrast against her fair skin.

...

In the middle of the night.

All was quiet.

Victoria had a nightmare that she was falling down the mountain and woke with a start.

A suit jacket slipped from her shoulders.

Victoria paused, picking it up. Her fingers traced the embroidered letter 'E' on the inside of the collar.

It was Elias's jacket.

Feeling dizzy, Victoria pressed a hand to her forehead. After a moment, she looked toward the entrance and saw someone standing outside.

The rain seemed to have stopped.

Moonlight filtered through the clouds, casting a soft glow on the man's figure, softening the sharp, unapproachable coldness he usually carried.

Victoria pushed herself up with both hands, but as soon as she moved, a searing pain shot through her ankle, worse than before she'd fallen asleep.

She gritted her teeth and looked down at her left ankle, catching the faint scent of medicinal herbs.

Someone had put liniment on it...

Victoria instinctively looked at Elias's back, her lips pressed into a thin line.

She slowly walked toward him.

Elias heard her approach and turned. His cold eyes, like frost, landed on her, and his brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.

Victoria held out the jacket. "Thank you," she said softly.

Elias glanced down at it. "If you don't need it, just throw it away. I don't want anything back that you've touched."

"..." Victoria's lips tightened into a strained smile, her hand clutching the jacket a little tighter. "Fine."

With that, she balled up the expensive jacket and tossed it down the mountainside.
