Her lips tightened as she stared at the name. A dense, needle-like pain pricked at her heart, and a self-deprecating look flashed in her eyes.
Two years…
It wasn't a long time, but it wasn't short, either. Yet it was enough to change everything.
Two years ago, everyone flocked to the Sanger family, desperate to form a connection.
Now, everyone avoided them like the plague, wanting nothing more than to keep their distance.
On the surface, people still called her Miss Sanger, and she had dozens of contacts in her phone, but in reality, besides Elias, she couldn't find a single person she could ask for help.
Victoria took a deep breath, turned off her phone screen, and scanned her surroundings, wondering if there was another way to sneak into the auction.
"Assistant Hawk!"
A respectful voice from a security guard cut through the air.
Victoria looked up almost instinctively.
She saw Hawk nod in response, then say directly to the guard, "Let that Miss Sanger in."
The guard was visibly stunned. He glanced at Victoria, then back at Hawk with a troubled expression. "Assistant Hawk, that's against the rules…"
"Rules? Do the auction rules forbid guests from bringing a date?"
As someone who worked closely with Elias, Hawk exuded a powerful presence of his own. The guard was momentarily speechless.
"Miss Sanger is Mr. Shawn's guest. She simply arrived a little late. You're stopping her at the door. When Mr. Shawn asks about it, how about you explain the situation to him?"
"No, no, of course not! It was our mistake. Since Miss Sanger is Mr. Shawn's guest, she can certainly enter." The guard's expression changed instantly. He quickly moved aside and said to Victoria with the utmost respect, "Miss Sanger, please."
Victoria was momentarily taken aback but quickly recovered and walked inside.
She didn't know why Hawk had come to help her, nor was she sure what Elias's motives were.
But one thing was certain: she had to get into tonight's auction.
As Victoria reached Hawk's side, before she could ask, he began leading her into the venue, clearly having no intention of explaining.
Inside the hall.
Hawk said, "Miss Sanger, Mr. Shawn's seat is in the front row."
Victoria looked toward the front.
Elias's profile was arresting. Even in perfect stillness, he carried the inborn, commanding grace of someone born to lead, a presence that drew the eye and refused to be overlooked.
Victoria's lashes fluttered. She lightly lifted the hem of her dress and walked toward Elias.
She moved at a measured pace.
