The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 143

Hawk swallowed hard, the words catching in his throat as if they were about to freeze solid. He hesitated, wondering if he should continue.

He glanced at the entrance to City Hall, then thought, "If I don't say something now, I'll have to say it later when they close for lunch anyway."

Steeling himself, Hawk squeezed his eyes shut. "Mr. Shawn, maybe Miss Sanger overslept, and her phone is on silent. Should I go to Willow Creek Estates to check on her?"

Elias said nothing.

"If I'd known Victoria was going to stand him up, I would've taken the day off," Hawk thought miserably.

Meanwhile, after nearly fifteen hours in a coma, Garnett finally woke up.

After a series of routine checks confirmed he was stable, the doctors had him transferred back to his monitored room for his medical parole. The lead physician then came out to speak with Victoria and Grady.

"Based on the test results, the new drug did show a significant positive effect on Mr. Sanger's heart failure. However, his body may not be able to tolerate continued use. Our team of specialists will convene to discuss a new treatment plan."

"You can rest assured, Mr. Sanger is stable for now."

The two of them let out a simultaneous sigh of relief.

"Thank you, doctor," Victoria said.

The doctor gave them a polite smile and left.

Victoria watched as the nurses and guards wheeled Garnett out of the ICU. Her expression was a mixture of loss and longing. She wanted to rush to her father's side, but she knew she couldn't yet.

Grady sensed her thoughts and patted her on the shoulder. "It won't be long now. Our family will be sitting down for a meal together soon."

Victoria turned to meet his gaze and nodded.

"By the way, you said you had something to tell me the other day. We have some time now, so go ahead."

They started walking toward the elevators.

At his words, Victoria stopped. After a moment of consideration, she said, "Grady, what I'm about to say might shock you, but I need you to listen carefully."

Seeing her serious expression, Grady's faint smile faded. "Okay," he agreed.
