Tammie was startled by Elias’s cold snap.
Hawk, who had followed Elias in, saw the half-eaten bag of cookies and held his breath.
“What’s going on?” Tammie asked, standing up in confusion.
Elias’s brows furrowed sharply. He put the cookies away, struggling to contain his fury. “Get out!”
“Why?” Tammie was completely bewildered. He had no idea why Elias had suddenly blown up.
A chill ran down Hawk’s spine. He quickly stepped forward to mediate. “Mr. James, I think it would be best if you left for now.”
Otherwise, Mr. Shawn might actually punch you.
Of course, Hawk didn’t dare say that last part out loud.
Tammie’s brow creased with dissatisfaction. He’d barely warmed his seat and hadn’t even gotten to the point before being kicked out. “I’m not leaving!” he refused. “Shawn, you owe me a reason!”
Hawk felt a massive headache coming on.
If Tammie wasn't leaving, could he leave? He didn't want to get caught in the crossfire! He needed an answer, and fast.
Elias’s dark eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint in them. “A reason? You touched someone else’s property without permission. Is that how the James family teaches etiquette? I’m giving you three seconds. Get out. Otherwise, all partnerships between The Shawn Group and the James family are canceled.”
Tammie’s eyes widened in disbelief as he shot to his feet. “Are you insane, Shawn?! Do you know how much you’ll have to pay in penalties if you cancel? I ate a couple of your cookies, and you’re willing to pay that high a price?!”
Elias’s face was cold and silent.
The partnership with The Shawn Group was Tammie’s trump card for gaining support within his family and securing his position as heir. He couldn’t afford to gamble with it. Swallowing his anger, he stormed out.
As he left, he threw one last comment over his shoulder. “I never should have come here to invite you and Miss Sanger to dinner!”
“Wait!” Elias called out suddenly.
