Abbey's mother took the urn, and tears instantly streamed down her face. "My Tamara…"
Victoria looked at Mrs. Prescott's red, tear-filled eyes and forced a faint smile, thinking to herself, "Thank God I was able to protect Tamara this time."

The fire at the Prescott home was discovered relatively quickly and was soon extinguished. Besides the living room, which was severely damaged, the rest of the house was mostly fine.
Carpenter Prescott was known for his kindness and had good relationships with the other elderly residents in the neighborhood. After learning about the fire, they all warmly invited the Prescotts to rest in their homes.
Mr. Prescott wanted to decline, but Mrs. Prescott, concerned that Victoria had inhaled a lot of smoke and needed a place to recover, readily accepted.
At the neighbor's house.
As soon as they entered, Carpenter Prescott busied himself offering to see what furniture the elderly homeowner needed, leaving Mrs. Prescott and Victoria alone.
Victoria knew that Mr. Prescott didn't really want to help with furniture; he just didn't want to see her. However, since she had just saved him and his wife and preserved Tamara's urn, he had no reason to send her away.
As his wife, Mrs. Prescott naturally understood her husband's thoughts.
"Miss Sanger, please don't mind him. Tamara's father is just having a hard time processing everything," Mrs. Prescott said with a faint smile, sighing inwardly as she explained on her husband's behalf.
Victoria shook her head. "I understand. If I were in his shoes, I wouldn't be able to sit with the person who caused my daughter's death either."
Mrs. Prescott lowered her gaze and said nothing.
Victoria pressed her lips together. "Mrs. Prescott, I know anything I say right now will sound like an excuse, and you won't believe me. But…"
"I truly did not steal Tamara's designs, nor did I orchestrate the public outcry to pressure her. As for why her designs appeared under my name, I have never stopped investigating."
Mrs. Prescott turned away, wiping the moisture from the corner of her eye. "Miss Sanger, Tamara is gone. There's no point in saying these things now. I don't want to bring it up again."
Without proof, any explanation sounded feeble.
After composing herself, Mrs. Prescott looked at Victoria and said, "Actually, Tamara told me everything."
Victoria froze.
Mrs. Prescott's voice choked with emotion. "She said she knew none of it was your fault. She knew you were trying to comfort her, but she just couldn't bear it. The moment she thought about the way people looked at her, she felt like she was on pins and needles. She was terrified."
