At her words, all eyes turned back to Felice. Her face was pale, and her fingers tightened into fists. She was speechless.

Mr. Blake demanded, "Felice, is this true?"

Felice looked up, meeting Mr. Blake's furious gaze. She swallowed hard. "No."

Then she turned to face Victoria, repeating her denial, enunciating each word. "Victoria gave me the project materials and then left, making an excuse. She never, at any point, verified the designs with me in person. Director Vale... can attest to that."

Genevieve chimed in at the perfect moment. "Mr. Blake, I can corroborate Ms. Donald's account. On the day of the submission, I went to Ms. Donald's office to ask her advice on a few work-related matters. I did see Victoria come in, drop off some materials, and leave immediately. I just... I assumed it was nothing important."

Felice lowered her gaze, letting it sweep across the room before settling on Mr. Blake. "My mistake," she said, "was in trusting Victoria too much. She repeatedly assured me that everything was in order, so I didn't open the portfolio to verify its contents myself. For that oversight, I am willing to accept the firm's disciplinary action."

Then, she produced a contract. "Mr. Blake, this is the project contract for Vista Heights Lodge. The signing was completed this morning. I would like to request to personally oversee this project and volunteer to forfeit my bonus for it to compensate for the loss I caused the firm."

Mr. Blake immediately gave his assistant a look. The assistant understood, took the contract from Felice, and handed it to Mr. Blake.

Mr. Blake frowned as he flipped to the last page of the contract. Seeing the notarized signature of Vista Heights Lodge on the signature line, his expression brightened, and much of his anger toward Felice dissipated. "Good. Very good. Your willingness to make amends shows a proper attitude. Seeing as you've secured the Vista Heights Lodge project, I'm willing to consider this matter settled."

Felice breathed a sigh of relief. But Mr. Blake's next words made the smile freeze on her face.

He set the contract down. "However, Vista Heights Lodge is twice the size of Midlake Estates. As the department director, you already have other projects to oversee. Taking this on as well would be too much work."

"So, Genevieve is new to the firm and has a lighter workload. We'll have her take the lead on Vista Heights Lodge. You... can assist her."
